Rebuilding Elida & Ignacio Bustamante’s Horse Barn
A devastating barn fire on Friday night destroyed the horse stables belonging to the Bustamante family, who make their living training racehorses. According to reports, efforts were made to rescue all of the horses inside the structure, but one horse did not survive. Another sustained severe burns and was later humanely euthanized by a veterinarian. The remaining horses are undergoing veterinary treatment and receiving medication for their injuries.
The fire resulted in a total loss of the facility. The stables, tack, and all training equipment were completely destroyed. With the family’s livelihood dependent on their horses and training operation, the loss has left them with nothing to rebuild from.
Many have reached out asking how they can assist. Sam Thompson Foundation is now taking donations to help the Bustamante family begin the process of rebuilding the barn and replacing essential supplies, including tack, buckets, and other equipment required for the care and training of their horses.
