Mike Weber Custom Tack
Mike Weber Custom Tack was founded by Mike Weber in 1998. Mike Weber has provided leather goods and services to horsemen working with a wide spectrum of breeds since 1974, with a special focus on The Thoroughbred Racing Industry. The majority of his business is done directly with trainers located at Churchill Downs and the neighboring training facilities. He is often seen on Churchill’s backside providing personal service as he takes orders and delivers products during the early morning training hours.
In 1974, Mike Weber began working with a master saddle maker and has since continued building upon that solid foundation of high quality leather work. MWCT’s customers include many of the country’s top Thoroughbred trainers, including Nick Zito, Kenneth McPeek, Ronald Werner, Dale Romans, Murray Johnson, Steve Asmussen, Bernard Flint, Steven Flint, Frankie Brothers, Bobby Frankel and D. Wayne Lucas among many others.
In addition to an in-depth knowledge of the thoroughbred industry, Mike has extensive experience in other equine fields. He began riding and developing American Quarter Horses for the reining division at a young age. Mike was honored to own, train and show National High Point Reining Horses in 1983, 1984 and 1987. Mike and his wife, Nez, maintain a barn with an average of 12 horses for breeding, show, and pleasure. Nez works in the shop beside her husband and breeds and shows American Saddlebreds. This first-hand knowledge of diverse breeds gives MWCT a unique understanding of the needs and desires of many different horsemen for quality equipment.
